Alexandrian Hawawshi ingredients
3 cups of flour.
A cup of warm water. 3
tablespoons of powdered milk.
One tablespoon of sugar.
One tablespoon of instant yeast.
¼ cup of oil.
½ kilo of minced meat.
½ kilo of finely chopped onion.
3 medium-sized green bell peppers, finely chopped.
Chopped hot pepper.
A teaspoon of mixed spices, or Hawawshi spices.
Salt and black pepper.
How to prepare Alexandrian Hawawshi
1- In a bowl, put the yeast, sugar and ¼ cup of water, stir well, then put it in a warm and dark place for 15 minutes. In another bowl, put the flour, powdered milk and oil and knead well. Add the yeast mixture and knead, then add the water gradually, until you get a soft and cohesive dough.
2- Cover the pot with a clean towel, then place it in a warm place for 60 minutes.
3- In a large bowl, put the meat, onions, green and hot peppers, salt, black pepper and spices, and knead well.
4- Cover the bowl, then place it in the fridge for an hour.
5- Preheat the oven at 180 degrees.
6- Divide the dough and meat into balls, then roll out the first ball, then spread the meat ball over the dough ball.
7- Roll out the second ball of dough, then place it on top of the meat, then close the two ends of the dough with a fork or braid.
8- Repeat these steps with the remaining dough and meat.
9- Grease the surface with butter, then place it on a tray greased with oil.
10- Place the tray in the oven for 25-30 minutes, until the color becomes golden.
